Tuxford Mine of Information is a well-supported grass roots resource and community centre set up some 20 years ago at the heart of the community to serve the community by offering:

  • Better local access to information, advice and counselling resources including better take-up of benefits and welfare services.
  • Enhanced employment opportunities for unemployed people and those on low income through the development of basic key skills and access to employment advice and information.
  • Promotion of local activities with support for local voluntary and community sector groups.
  • Promotion of economic regeneration through improvements in skills within the community and support for local businesses.
  • Promotion of Tuxford and surrounding communities through the use of information and communication technology (ICT) facilities and the village web site.

At Tuxford Mine of Information we provide information, support and deliver many public services directly to our community on behalf of our district council, including: benefits advice, referrals, council help numbers, planning information, housing, council tax, environmental health, anti-social behaviour. We facilitate complaints and compliments, passing them onto Bassetlaw DC when appropriate and when related to issues that the Council controls or influences and to the ‘Speak up We’re Listening’ initiative.

We offer BDC and A1 Housing a dedicated confidential space for their customer services clinics for the community and support this service with MOI health and safety policies and public liability insurance.

We are a local Police Contact Point. Local people get information and report issues to our local PC and PCSO’s at monthly surgery; we also house CCTV on behalf of BDC for the local area.

We work with the Extended Schools Service at Tuxford Academy feeder schools in E-safety for children/parents/staff.  We are part of the Trentside Learning Groups where external training is discussed partnered with Library Service, Tuxford Academy, Sure Start, Tuxford Primary Academy and The Dukeries Academy.

We work with a range of partners like Advice Bassetlaw and the local FOODBANK to help combat causes and effects of poverty and impact on quality of life. We are a voucher issuer, local collection point and emergency distribution centre for the FOODBANK.  We support a CAB referral service through Advice Bassetlaw.
