Tuxford Mine of Information is a well-supported grass roots resource and community centre set up some 20 years ago at the heart of the community to serve the community by offering:
At Tuxford Mine of Information we provide access to information and advice services at a grassroots level. We support many public services on behalf of other organisations like our district council. This may include: sign-posting or advice on benefits, welfare, housing, council help numbers, planning information, council tax, environmental health, anti-social behaviour. We can facilitate complaints and compliments, passing them onto Bassetlaw DC when appropriate and when related to issues that the Council controls or influences and to the ‘Speak up We’re Listening’ initiative. The District Council and A1 Housing hold customer service clinics here for ease of access to services and we are a local Police Contact Point. Local people can get information and report issues to our local PC and PCSO’s at monthly surgery; we also house the town CCTV on behalf of BDC for the local area.
We work with a range of partners like the North Notts Support Partnership to help combat causes and effects of poverty and impact on quality of life. We are a voucher issuer, local collection point and emergency distribution centre for the Foodbank. We try to enhance employment opportunities for unemployed people and those on low income through the development of basic key skills and access to employment advice and information.
Through The Tuxfordian and our website we promote local activities and support other local voluntary and community sector groups, as well as economic regeneration through improvements in skills within the community and support for local businesses.
